The SAT is a standardized test widely used by colleges for admission to the undergraduate programs at universities in the United States. The SAT is a college admission test administered by the College Board through which the knowledge and skills of the student are tested. The US universities use the scores of the SAT to make their decision for admission.

The SAT score plays an important role in the selection process and it is a mandatory part of the application as it evaluates the overall profile and also judges the academic preparedness of the student for college. The SAT exam consists of three sections: Math, evidence-based Reading, and Writing. The exam duration is 3 hours and 45 minutes.

SAT requirements:

The College Board website provides the registration and subject tests online. The candidates should register 4 weeks prior to the test date. It is advised that candidates fill the form in advance so that he/she should get a confirmed seat at the center of their choice.

Students in India require a valid passport on the day of testing. In case of an expired passport, the student will not be allowed to sit for the exam even if he carries a letter from the passport office suggesting the issuance is in process. The recent SAT fee is $101 without the essay, and $117 with essay. The students can also register offline via mail.

The candidates are required to create an Id on the official SAT website and follow the steps for online registration given below:

• Visit the official website of the College Board.

• Create the user id.

• Submit all the mandatory details.

• Choose your exam along with the center.

• Upload the document and pay the registration fee.

SAT represents the candidate’s academic ability and gives an idea to the admission officer whether the GPA and transcript are authentic or not. For instance, if you have 4.0 GPA with a 1000 SAT score then the officer may think that your grades are exorbitantly high or made up. But if you score more in SAT and have low GPA grades then, the college may be willing to overlook your academic ability.
